This position can be performed remotely for candidates who reside in the Minnesota metro area. Produces and underwrites new and renewal bond business in an assigned territory. Essential Functions: - Under close supervision, assists in analyzing and underwriting contract and commercial surety accounts
- Analyzes financial statements, work in progress reports, and overall credit worthiness
- Gains knowledge of bond terminology, forms and underwriting standards
- Attends agency visits with the bond staff to gain an understanding of the independent agency system.
- Develops proper file documentation in connection with underwriting actions
Education & Experience: - Bachelor's degree, preferably in accounting, finance, or business, or equivalent relevant experience
- Experience in the insurance, banking, or construction industry preferred
**Candidates may qualify for a Bond Underwriter III if they meet these requirements - Bachelor's degree, preferably in accounting, finance, or business, or related field, or equivalent relevant experience
- Three years of experience with bond underwriting, or related experience
- Associate in Fidelity and Surety Bonding (AFSB) designation preferred
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: - Good analytical and problem-solving skills
- Strong multitasking and organizational skills
- Good keyboarding skills, Internet and basic computer knowledge
- Good human relation skills, including written and verbal communication skills
- Occasional travel required; a valid driver's license with an acceptable motor vehicle report per company standards required if traveling
