Pay:                                      $25.00 - 29.00 /hour

GENERAL PURPOSE
The Girl Scouts of Colorado (GSCO) Health Program and Policy Advisor provides policy recommendations and medical chart review for the Outdoor Program and Property (OPP) department, specifically focusing on summer overnight and day camps. The Health Program and Policy Advisor also facilitates partnerships with relevant medical professionals to meet childcare licensing, American Camp Association (ACA), and other regulatory body standards.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/ RESPONSIBILITIES
Outdoor Program and Property (OPP) Health Oversight and Guidance
  1. Implement, stay current in, perform yearly reviews, and as necessary the health and emergency procedures as written within the GSCO Outdoor Program & Property Health Plan, Medical Standing Orders, Site Emergency Procedures, Communicable Disease Plan, and medication dispensing and charting procedures all in accordance with the Colorado Dept. of Human Services, Colorado Dept. of Public Health & Environment, and American Camp Association (ACA) standards.
  2. Keep Seasonal Overnight Camp Health Supervisors, Executive Camp Directors, and the Director of Outdoor Programs informed on all health policy and procedural recommendations and changes needing to take place, in accordance with new and current best practices. Inform members of SLT when appropriate.
  3. Edit and maintain all OPP health, vaccination, physical, and medication forms.
  4. Review health history, vaccination, health examination, and medication records for all summer camp personnel and campers, making sure that required consents are signed, all immunization documents are completed and correct, and noting potential medical needs or missed documentation. Contact guardians if essential information is missing or needs clarified.
  5. Once document review for campers is completed, transfer care of all summer camp personnel and campers to Seasonal  Health Supervisors, Executive Camp Directors, and other Outdoor Program Directors as applicable. Communicate all reviews and findings with Seasonal Health Supervisor, Executive Camp Directors, and other Outdoor Program Directors as applicable upon the transfer of care. Meet regularly as needed.
  6. Provide training and delegation of medication administration to relevant OPP staff when needed, particularly in advance of summer camp season.
  7. Advise necessary staff on accessibility requirements, adaptive and developmental needs, specialized accommodations, and other health related care requests.
  8. Provide  on-call remote assistance (answering phone calls) during May-August during day and summer camp season. Provide on-call remote (answering phone calls) assistance during September-April when requested and in collaboration with the OPP team.
  9. Establish new and maintain current working relationships and partnerships with medical/health and emergency service providers.
  10. Maintain written letters of agreement and Medical Standing Orders of health providers throughout the state.
  11. Plan to visit day and overnight camps at minimum of 1 time per summer season, and possibly more as required by regulatory and licensing entities.
  12. On occasion as requested, provide health and risk policy/procedure review and recommendations for cross-functional departments.
Administration
  1. Maintain the necessary records and files to perform the job effectively.
  2. Participate in the staff evaluation process.
  3. Participate in OPP/statewide meetings as applicable.
  4. Respect the confidential nature of all information pertaining to staff, volunteers, and campers.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITY

 
  1. Organizational Leader for Health Policies and Procedures
    • Ability to research, draft, and make recommendations on policies and procedures that impact the health and well-being of GSCO members, volunteers, staff, and community.
    • Maintain and update applicable health standards and procedures including but not limited to those set by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, Childcare Facility Licensing, Child Protective Services, and the American Camp Association.
  2. Supportive advisor of Outdoor Programs’ Health and Medical Policies and Procedures
    • Recognize common childhood illnesses and recommend updates to policy as applicable.
    • Handle emergencies and crisis with sound judgment .
    • Ability to recognize potential health and safety hazards: make recommendations and implement remedies.
    • Facilitate sensitive and confidential conversations with medical personnel, staff, members, parents, and care givers.
  3. High Level of Interpersonal and Professional Skills
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with a high attention to detail.
    • Ability to prioritize, advocate and communicate important regulatory changes to all parties affected.
    • Strong computer skills, with demonstrated competency on platforms such as but not limited to: Microsoft 365 and Zoom and digital patient charts.
    • Ability to work with and be accountable to multiple people and teams throughout the greater GSCO organizations.
    • Represent GSCO in a professional manner to staff, members, parents and care givers, medical professionals, and the community.
    • Work with diverse populations.
  4. Ability to Work Independently
    • Strong motivational, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
    • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines, both administrative and programmatic.
  5. Ability to pass a Criminal Background Check, as well as a CBI/FBI check.
EDUCATION OR FORMAL TRAINING
  • Minimum of RN (NP or physician assistant or MD accepted) with current CO state license.
FORMAL EXPERIENCE
  • Experience in a health care setting required.
  • Previous experience working or volunteering with children preferred.
  • Camp or outdoor program experience preferred.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES
  • Ability to work non – traditional hours.
  • Ability to work at a non-traditional office and work from home.
