Summer Camp Assistant Counselor

Friends Community School (FCS) is seeking assistant counselors for our summer camp program with flexible week-long commitments between June 16, 2025, through August 15, 2025. 

This is a seasonal position. Compensation for this position starts at $15.50 commensurate with experience.

Duties of Assistant Counselor: 

• Assist Camp Teachers in conducting a recreational and educational camp program. 
• Help plan and lead age-appropriate activities, for small groups and/or all-camp activities. 
• Assist Camp staff in supervising campers during lunch and/or recess duty. 
• Lead, supervise, and dismiss campers during Extended-Day as scheduled. 
• Participate in any training and orientation sessions or review virtual guides prior to the start of camp.
• Help set up and clean up for all activities. Leave the rooms clean and organized at the end of each day's session. 

Hours of Assistant Counselor:

• Assistant counselors must arrive prior to and be ready to work by the scheduled start time.
  • Camp assistant counselor schedules are 8:15 AM - 3:30 PM (7.5 hours).
  • Ex-Day/Floaters schedules are 2:00 PM - 6:00 PM (4 hours)
• Scheduled hours will be posted at least one (1) week in advance.
• Assistant counselors working will receive a half-hour lunch break.
• Assistant counselors are expected to provide coverage for scheduled lunch or recess duties. 
• Assistant counselors must be available to work for all hours and all days of the agreed-upon sessions.
• In the event of an emergency, illness, or necessary absence, please notify the Camp Director in enough time to find a suitable substitute. 

Qualifications:

• Teaching/childcare experience recommended. Candidates must have a high school diploma.
• Strong technology, organizational and communication skills. 
• Additional qualities include flexibility, patience, a sense of humor and a demonstrated love for working with young children and their families. 
• Successful candidates will need to be able to successfully complete all background checking requirements at the time of hire. 
• Adherence to all health and safety protocols associated with working on campus.
